Regenerative placemaking
Placemaking is more than buildings and land. It's how people feel in a place, how they connect and whether they thrive there.
We advise on restorative placemaking, bringing together blue health research, creative strategy, commercial insight and community voice. Every project starts by listening to the landscape, local stories and the people who live there. From there we co-create evidence-based ideas that are beautiful, sustainable and commercially viable.
01
Environments designed to support physical and mental health, every day.
02
Swimming, surfing, gathering and play: reasons to come back again and again.
03
Small moments by water that change someone's day, and sometimes their life.
Proof it works
A slice of the ocean, inland. Founded by Nick, The Wave brought water, waves and surfing to people of every age, background and ability, and showed that a big blue health idea can become a real place that changes lives.
Abby leads its social impact programme, bringing surf therapy and blue health to the people who need it most.
Case study
Nick spent nine years taking The Wave from idea to opening. It showed what happens when you design a place around water: people come, they come back, and they leave healthier.
2019
The Wave opened to the public, the first public wave pool to use Wavegarden Cove technology.
1,000
waves an hour, from 50cm whitewater for beginners to waves of around two metres.
300,000+
visitors in its first two years, by early 2022.
230+
young people through The Wave Project's surf therapy courses at The Wave.
23%
average improvement in those young people's wellbeing, on the WHO-5 scale.
16,000
trees planted, alongside 13.5 acres of wildflower meadow.

Landscape, history, residents and stakeholders: understanding what makes the place itself.
Blue health research and commercial insight to show what the scheme will deliver.
Ideas shaped with the community, designed in from day one and carried through planning.
The right partners and operators in place to bring the water, wellbeing and hospitality to life.
Some projects we develop, others we advise on. New settlements, place regeneration, community-led neighbourhoods, energy assets and working landscapes: let's put water and wellbeing at the centre.
